Police have identified the body recovered from Lake Spenard on Tuesday as Wasillie "Gabe" Jost, 26. Police said an autopsy performed Wednesday showed the cause of death was drowning. Police are investigating his death as a homicide. Jost was last seen Sept. 21 near the Old Seward Highway and Dimond Boulevard. Police searched the lake for his body last fall without success.

Police said Wednesday they are questioning suspects but had made no arrests. Jost's father, Jerry Jost, said the recovery of his son's body "brings a sense of closure at least to one chapter." Wasillie Jost grew up in Anchorage and graduated from East High School, his father said. At the time of his death, he was working for a janitorial service cleaning out railroad cars.
